Founded in Seville, Spain on September 19, 2007 to replace the International Liaison Committee of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (ILC), the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (IFCCD) grew out of a major civil society mobilization for the adoption and subsequent ratification of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
This document traces the history of the IFCCD from its inception to the present day; it discusses its struggle for culture; it defines the concept of cultural policy and formulates its objectives and means of action; and it addresses the current challenges of the diversity of cultural expressions.
